Camping!
We just returned from a nice trip to the Great North Woods! It was the same cabin that Jay stayed in this winter on his ski trip, though considerably less thermalwear was required.
First we settled in with a picnic, then promptly set off to climb Sentinal- the peak that our cabin is named after. It was a more difficult climb than we had expected, but the view overlooking Katahdin, Doubletop, and Kidney Pond was spectacular.
We set off to see the moose and it's new calf- sadly the calf was too far away for a good picture, but here's mama snorfling vegetation from the pond.
Hal almost grabbed the big pile of chocolate on the ground, but we warned her not to.
Later, Evvie wanted to find out if grandpa could walk to Rocky Pond without his glasses! The answer to that question was a definitive "no".
It was a great trip with beaver sightings, nesting loons, an evening lightning storm and lots of love. Dad even got a birthday Twinkie with a candle in it! I was so excited the I barely napped, except when I couldn't hold my head up any longer in the backpack. We were exhausted by the end, and happy to be home, but thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

A Day at the Beach
Evvie discovers that no matter how hard you try, the sand gets everywhere
Today we set out for the beach- a two mile walk through the woods landing at Maine's best kept secret. It was a beautiful day with a light breeze, and Evvie had a blast. There was a lot to take in- she especially liked the bubbles churned up by the surf.
It was a nice family outing.

Bubbles!
Okay, so you have to look closely to see what she's grabbing at, but it's there!
Evvie's been a bit sick lately (some vomiting and a fever), but the bubbles make her forget all that- at least for a few minutes.
The good news is she's all better now and felling chipper-just in time for another swim lesson!

Swim Lessons!
Today Evvie had her first swim lesson at the "Y". She thoroughly enjoyed her 1/2 hour in the warm therapy pool, and despite being the youngest, showed some great spunk. They played games, sang songs and basically got comfortable in the water.
At eight months old, Evvie only classifies as a "Kipper", although she thinks she's a "shark".
So, in the immortal words of Chief Brody from "Jaws"...
"We're going to need a biggger boat."
