The Misty Wood

Today we took a trip down to the woods around Reid State Park and tried out the "off road" feature of Evvie's super high-tech stroller. The stroller performed well, and it proved early enough in the year that the mosquitos weren't a major problem at Reid. That is to say, we only swatted a few dozen. For Reid, a peninsula with a bog in the middle, that's not a major problem.

Evvie has taken to shaking her maracas (when not tasting them). She's pretty good at waving them around to make the shaking sound, although she waves a lot of things around in the same way.

Her eating has really come along. She gets two meals a day. Today was bananas with rice cereal in the morning, and sweet potatoes in the afternoon. We've been mashing organic fruits and vegetables ourselves, and it feels really good to maintain that level of control over what goes into her body. (More importantly, what does NOT go into her body).

She's also getting to be a pro at sitting up and rolling over both ways. Her tooth (could you see it???) is definitely visible now, with a second coming in beside it. She's insisting that her next meal be a burger. I think we've got a little further to go before that happens...

Shoulder Ride

Evvie was teething on everything in sight- cuffs, toys, washcloths...when she finally got my finger in her mouth, I realized that there's the emerging bud of a tooth!

Her lower right front tooth should begin to be visible soon. I've been thinking of naming it "ol' chopper".

In celebration, I hoisted her and her emerging tooth
UP!
UP!
UP!
and paraded them joyfully around the room.

6 Month Checkup

Today was another checkup with the pediatrition. We had to wait a few hours while she returned from being on call at the hospital. Evvie was a trooper and was rewarded for her patience with two shots.

Here are her new stats:

Weight: 14 lbs. 15 oz
24%

Length: 25 1/4"
27%

Head: 17"
68%

Dr. Tracy said she is doing very well. We discussed food and sleeping. (She stopped eating after four succesful days. We stopped forcing her, for a week and have just picked it up again. She's doing very well now, and seems to really enjoy her avocado!)

Hiking in Camden

Sunday was the kind of day that just pulls you away off the couch or chair into the nice warm sunshine. We took advantage of the flawless weather and made a little run at Mt. Megunticook in Camden. It was a great hike with a nice lookout over Camden, Penobscot Bay, Islesboro, Vinalhaven, and more. We saw nary a soul on top and had a nice time as a family.

Evelyn did lose her favorite "Pooh Shoe" on the way down, and dad turned his ankle on a rock and fell with a jolt that she didn't like. Everyone was okay, though Evvie was a little unnerved for the rest of the trek.

Not so unnerved, however, that she was paralyzed. After we returned home that afternoon, she rolled over for the first time! She flipped front-to-back (not surprising as she has never been thrilled with tummy time) without any help! A feat she repeated again yesterday.
