Water Sports

One of the nicest things about being at camp is our proximity to Evelyn's cousins, Ava and Iris. This afternoon they played together in the camp and in the water.

Strawberry Picking!

The berries are ripe, and our appetite is mighty, so mama took Evvie to meet a friend and pick enough strawberries for pies and shortcake!

Movin' to Camp!

Evelyn is not disappointed that we move our food and other necessities to the pond for a few weeks. She's been communing with nature in her own natural state!

Color me Thrilled!

Guess What I Did in the Potty Today?

That's right.

We bought Evvie a potty a few weeks ago with no expectations- just something to get her used to and maybe to sit on if mommy or daddy are on the big potty. We've talked about it a little bit here and there, but today after returning from the grocery store, Evelyn grabbed her crotch, said, "potty, potty." She headed for the bathroom so, a bit puzzled, I followed her to give the idea a chance. I whipped off her shorts and diaper and she turned and sat herself on the potty. She kicked her legs for a moment or two, then- well, see for yourself.

I'm trying not to make a big deal of this in my mind, but it is a very encouraging step.

The Return of West Coast Auntie & Planting the Sunflowers

Amy returns from California!

Evelyn was a bit tentative to auntie's exuberant ways, but we have no fear that the two will be great pals in no time. In the meantime, Grammy took the opportunity to recruit Evelyn's assistance in planting some sunflowers in the garden. It's going to be a lot of fun to visit and watch the progress of the sunflowers of the course of the summer.

She also really enjoyed chasing a feather that kept blowing off of her hand. in the light breeze. She'd flap her hands and chase after it again and again. I'm not sure who was having the most fun- Evvie with her game, or the rest of us watching it!

Friday was the last day of music class, and we are very sad not to be able to take them anymore when they pick up again in the fall. Daddy's darn school schedule just won't accomodate the vocal stylings of Miss Evelyn Mae in the fall. The good news is Matt (the instructor) is playing a kids gig right here in Bath in two weeks. We will soooo be there.

Rockin' In the Pack

So Evelyn has been jealous of the guitar recently. She doesn't allow me to play it when she's around- she sobs and says "no, no" and holds her hands out for me to pick her up. It's not that my playing has gotten worse or that her ear has become more sophisticated because she really enjoyed our Thursday afternoon jam as I wandered like a troubador around the house playing everything from "Old MacDonald" to "Highway to Hell".

She really likes "Old MacDonald" and will call out the names of the animals that he had on his farm. As it turns out, Old MacDonald had mostly pigs and cows on his farm, with the occasional sheep or horse thrown in.

Who's in the Lupins?

When the lupins were in bloom about this time last year, we scattered Great-Grammie's ashes over her colorful plot in Turner. Up until then, here in Bath, we had not had much luck with lupins. This year, however, one grew up in front of the house where there hadn't been one in years. It is magnificent with 18 or more spires- the first few in full bloom now, with many more tiny ones to fill color into the coming weeks.

I don't know if there is a connection between the two events, but I like to think so.

Blocks and Train

We just got this Lego Baby Play Train from Pampers Gifts to Grow program. (You spend enough money on diapers & wipes, they throw you a bone).

I can remember when Evvie was first born we were stocked up on cotton cloth diapers. I don't know how many we've actually put on her, but suffice to say, we're earning quite a lot of Pampers Rewards points. Hey, I'm not proud about all that waste, just pressed for time!

All guilt aside, Evvie loves her train and we make paths for it with her blocks to weave around. We should be getting the Lego Baby Play Plane soon, which times nicely, as Evvie enjoys the big planes from the Navy Base that fly overhead, especially when we see them takeoff and land from the bikepath.
