July 4th Festivities

The parade in Turner did not disappoint! Evelyn got very bold when she discovered that candy is thrown to the kids. She darted around picking up the pieces where they fell and sharing her booty with Grammy and Grampa.

After the parade, we caught up to Ava, Iris and Reed to enjoy strawberry shortcake in the shade.

Eventually a nap was had and when Evelyn awoke, it was time for the Pleasant Pond Boat Parade! Grampa's red and white boat sported flags and a bunting for the festivities, and carried a full load of happy children (although I think Grampa may have been the happiest of all to show off his his happy payload).

Later, Evelyn caught her first fish (A proud moment. We decided to give it to the loons to feed their babies)

After the fishing it was time for 4th of July cupcakes. Let me tell you about 4th of July cupcakes...

They explode in your mouth.

That's right.

Pop Rocks pepper the frosting so when the salivating, celebrating, pastry lover bites down, it's a taste and aural sensation like no other. At once pleasing and foreign, the sweettooth is pleased, yet confused as Iris will demonstrate here:

Eventually the merriment wound down and another beautiful day at camp wrapped up with smoldering fire and the haunting cry of the loons.

What a day.
