Time for Bed

Well, another wonderful day is over. Mom and Evvie are both ready to go to bed after a busy weekend in town and Turner visiting Grandparents and cousins.

Evvie's vocabulary includes several words- she'll say "hi" when you enter a room or hand her the phone, she says "hat" when daddy's wearing a hat. "Boh" passes for "book" which she loves to read, while "Buh" means button, which she'll point out on anybody's clothing. She's great asaying "baby" and will point them out in books and photos, and she seems to call Jay "Dahda". She also makes a good deal of animal noises. She's been mooing and woofing for quite some time and has recently picked up meowing. The "baa" of a sheep comes out a lot like her "moo", but let's not split hairs, she's trying.

She's also pointing a lot lately, which has helped our communication a lot. I think it's the next step toward more vocabulary as we identify what she points to.

No walking yet, although she has let go of the objects she pulls herself up onto and stands solo for seconds at a time. She's a pro at crawling and pulling up, so her upper body development continues while her confidence on those long skinny legs grows. (She gets THOSE from her mother!)

We've got a big trip to Jersey comng up this weekend and Evvie gets to fly for the first time.

Wish us luck.

Say Cheese!

After many attempts and pauses between attempts, Evvie has finally been persuaded that she likes cheese. Pardon me. LOVES CHEESE. Watch as she makes short work of this cheese-stick portion.

Fall Discoveries

Yes, Evvie's discovered all the new "ground foliage". She can't seem to leaves them alone.

She's had a fun week. On Saturday we all went as a family to the "Y" to spend some good pool time together. She was pretty serious, but enjoyed herself, too with a few bouts of slapping the water and looking for sunken daddy. We're going to continue the pool time through the winter until the local ponds warm up again.

Also, her thrush is gone, but the yeast has transferred itself to her crotch. We just got her on a nystatin ointment for that and hopefully the redness and itchiness wll go away quickly. She's been a bit clingy of late, but I think that's just her age...coming up very quickly on a year- I just cannot believe how fast the time goes by!

A New Emergence

Yes, Evvie's top teeth have finally emerged from her bulging gums. That smile we love so much is going to change, but I'm guessing she won't get too ugly.

Feeling Better

Well, the official illness is over, although the nose still occasionally runs. Evvie's back to her old self- getting into the cd's, cleaning off the coffee table, and pointing at nearly everything.

She's much less interested in her bottle these days and is eating quite a bit. She still nurses in the mornings and evenings, but the rest of her calories all come from food.

Thrush, Fever & Snot

Evvie has not been the happy camper this week. Monday required a visit to the doctor to check out her new fever and white spots inside her cheeks.

Thrush.

We've got her on Nystatin for that, plus Tylenol and Motrin alternating every three hours to keep her fever down. I checked on her last night after being med-free for five hours and her temperature was 102.8 degrees. The doctor calls this a "mid-grade" fever and not to worry too much under 104. Easier said than done.

She's had no energy lately and has done a great deal of napping on our chests. I'm hoping the fever will snap tonight...

Fun Family Weekend

This weekend Hallie, Evvie & Jay were blessed with a visit from three directions. From the south came the Smiths of Perry County, PA, the Smiths of Saranac Lake arrived from the west, and the Princes of Turner descended from the north.
The wekend was lovely with a visit to the seashore and the fantastic tidepools where Griffin discovered crabs, snails and little larvae. Ruby kept to Evvie's exact pace in a mimic-crawl on the beach.
